The Devan Hills Plantation Tea Museum at Nallathanni Estate tells the eventful story of the transformation of a tea plantation from an uninhabited forest land. The museum was opened to visitors in 2005. If you come to the museum, you can understand exactly what effect tea and chai had on Munnar and Kerala. The museum is built in Tata's Nallathani Estate. It can also be said that this museum was built as a tribute to the tea workers who worked hard in the tea plantations. It is also possible to understand the hardships faced by the workers to support their families. Highlights of the museum include old machinery used for tea processing, photographs, and some other interesting exhibits. A large sundial built in 1913 greets visitors at the entrance to the museum. The sundial built on a granite block was made by the Art Industrial School in Nazareth, Tamil Nadu. The tea roller built in 1905 to grind tea, the telephone system built in 1909 to connect bungalows and estates, and the Peltaton Wheel in the hydroelectric powerhouse built in 1929 to generate electricity can be seen in the museum. A grinding machine from 1924, parts of a rail engine from the 1929 train service connecting Munnar and Top Station, and an old medicine sprayer can also be seen. A 30-minute documentary feature on the museum will take you through the history of the museum.

The museum houses a miniature tea factory where visitors can learn about tea cultivation and processing as well as tea tasting. Attracting tourists from all over the world, the museum has had over 2.5 million visitors since its inception, providing an interesting insight into the evolution of Munnar's famous tea plantations.

Red oxide and wooden floorings add to the charm of the bungalow.

Munnar's Kanan Devan Hills Plantations (KDHP), synonymous with tea, is now moving beyond the beverage. This includes producing high-yielding and high-quality varieties that include white tea, flavored tea, large cardamom, vanilla, strawberry, black pepper, fragrant rose and eucalyptus.

One of the most notable achievements of the Research and Development Lab at KDHP is the production of high-yielding and high-quality tea clones through selection and hybridization. The strawberry preserving unit run by Srishti, a rehabilitation project for differently-abled dependents of KDHP workers, uses high-quality strawberry varieties developed by the lab. Knowing the fact that Munnar's soil and climate are favorable for strawberry cultivation, hybrid varieties from Pune are also being tested here. The lab and its greenhouses currently have 2,50,000 strawberry plants in various stages of growth. The strawberry varieties developed in the lab are currently planted on over 1.5 hectares. With an aim to spread social awareness and social responsibility, the lab's nursery cultivates endangered and wild plants.
